Flower Gorgon by Dracohoudini Flower Gorgon by Dracohoudini
I have no other name for this creature, for now it's called a Flower Gorgon. again looking through my flower catalogs aroused my imagination.

Personally I could've done a lot better job on this, it did'nt turn out the way I wanted it to. I was going to do more foilage and such but it just did'nt happen. I was working in too small of a sheet of Bristol for it. I tried adding shadows and lighting, trying to pull away from the cartoon look but still stick to my own style.
Porportions are off, her eyes are crooked, yadda yadda, this was just an experiment gone wrong. trying to get an idea out of my head.

it's a cool idea though! you should keep it and maybe rework it sometime. maybe work a bit with negative drawing for the grass and foilage next time and more contrasts on foreground elements. I like how you made the petals around her head a bit translucent!

thank you very much, and I am planning to re-work it. Right now I am in the middle of getting my own place so I've been busy packing^^

Actually, what attracted me to give it a closer inspection was how intense your cast shadows, lightings, and tonal changes were!

It has a very impressionistic quality to it - up close, it's rough looking, but from far away, it has this detailed persona. I like it.

I think the colors are great, the lighting, nice sense of depth! I wouldn't think it's a failure at all - an experiment, but to say there's so many things wrong with it doesn't give it justice.

Really, I like it that you're doing these pieces and posting them even if they are experiments and work-in-progress.

thank you, yeah I spent 5 hours on it beleive it or not, I plan to work more with shadows and lighting in my peices.

I actually did'nt like how rough it looked up close, but I guess that's just my style. But then again I don't want it to looked digitalized and overly smooth.

I may revisit this peice again, I really like my character design, she's one of my favorites I created.

I dunno if you ever watched a show called "Avatar the Last Airbender" but this flower gorgan reminds me of a character from it Coe the face stealer...only prettier and less terrifying. Which is good.
